PRODUCTIVITY 3X (TRIPLES) ON JET FUEL TANK PROJECT

OIL & GAS
FAIRBANKS, ALASKA

OVERVIEW

In June 2021, Graham Industrial Coatings, an industrial painting contractor, was tasked with a fairly common project. The job involved removing a 12-15 mils epoxy urethane coating from the exterior of a 50 ft diameter jet fuel tank at the Eielson Air Force Base in Fairbanks North Star, Alaska. The primary objectives were to improve productivity, enhance safety, and cut down on labor costs while maintaining the highest levels of quality and precision.

SET-UP

For this project, we suggested the VertiDrive, a high-performance abrasive blasting robot, equipped with 2 #8 Ultra nozzles and an Amphiblast pot. Using the client’s choice of abrasive (coal slag) the VertiDrive was prepared to deliver higher productivity, increased safety, and reduced labor costs.

RESULTS

The VertiDrive achieved a productivity rate of 260 sq ft/hr, nearly tripling the average rate of 95 sq ft/hr that the foreman had reported for a similar tank right next to this one. The project was completed to an SP10 standard, with manual hand cut-ins ensuring a thorough profile.

CONCLUSION

This case study illustrates the significant benefits that advanced technology like the VertiDrive can bring to industrial blasting projects. By nearly tripling productivity, enhancing safety, and reducing labor, the VertiDrive M7 offers a robust solution that aligns with our commitment to make our clients’ projects Faster, Safer Cleaner.
